THE NEW YORK STATE OF EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (ERAP) IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
The program provides significant economic relief to help low and moderate-income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing assistance with rental arrears, temporary rental assistance, and utility arrears assistance.
Approved applicants may receive:
– Up to 12 months of rental arrears payments for rents accrued on or after March 13, 2020.
– Up to 3 months of additional rental assistance if the household is expected to spend 30% or more of their gross monthly income towards rent payments.
Eligibility requirements and additional information can be found on the OTDA website. We recommend Landlord’s initiate an application for all residents who may have accrued a rent arrears balance since March 2020 if the Landlordis seeking to keep the occupant as tenants for at least 12 months. Once the application is initiated, the tenant/occupant will receive an email with instructions to complete the resident portion of the application. To complete the application, the tenant/occupant will need to provide the documentation listed on the Renter Checklist.
